Once again I would like to take the opportunity to showcase all the wonderful contributions Salem Electric makes to this community. Personally, I never tire of hearing about all the good things we do. All these contributions are what give us our reputation for outstanding service to our members and other neighbors.

Salem Electric contributed to the community this past year by either sponsoring or contributing to:

For our members, Salem Electric:

• Implemented For the Sake of the Salmon voluntary contributions

• Received delivery of green power

• Replaced two 110 foot river crossing poles

• Signed up over 700 members on Autopay

• Began remote metering program

• Prepared for and tested for Y2K problems

• Authorized $1,050,000 in Capital Credits

• Continued improvements to our web page

• Cindy Lenker - For keeping all this annual information and making this article so easy for me to write!!

We lost a good friend this year. Jim Hughes lost his battle with cancer and passed away May 8, 1999. We took time to say goodbye last August and were joined by Jim’s many friends and family members to celebrate the dedication of the Jim Hughes Substation. He will be missed, but remembered fondly.
            As you can see, it was another busy and very productive year at Salem Electric.

Minutes of the Meeting Held on:

December 21, 1999

The December meeting was called to order by President Nancy Towslee. All board members were physically present except Jeff Anderson, who was in attendance via a conference call.
      Member Services Manager Terry Kelly reported that 23 people have signed up for monthly contributions to the For The Sake of the Salmon (4SOS) program. The previous Executive Director of 4SOS, Bill Bradbury, has been appointed Secretary of State by Governor Kitzhaber. A new director will be sought for 4SOS.
      Kelly reported that all final preparations have been completed for 12/31/99 and the onset of Y2K. A number of Salem Electric staff will be on site at the office and substations, as well as others "on call." President Towslee complimented our staff for going "above and beyond" in the whole Y2K preparation process.
      Jack Belleque presented the board with a list of those 1974 capital credits that have gone unclaimed. The entire list of credits was published four times beginning in March 1999. The alternative to forfeiting these funds back to the cooperative is to release the funds to the State of Oregon’s account which manages other abandoned property and funds.
      The board unanimously passed a resolution to revert the abandoned funds back to the cooperative.
      President Towslee announced that she plans to attend the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s directors conference in February 2000. 
      The board meeting adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
