The meeting was called to order by
president Nancy Towslee. Other board members present were Bonesteele, Culver,
Dyer, Elliott and McCreary. Member Services Manager Terry Kelly reported to the
board on the history of the Appliance Rebate Program, which Salem Electric
began in April of 1988. Salem Electric was one of the first utilities to
recognize certain energy-saving appliances. When Bonneville ended their
participation in the program in 1996 Salem Electric elected to continue. Salem
Electric created a flier, which is available to our members, identifying
eligible appliances. To date, Salem Electric has paid out $177,000 in rebates
on 3,147 units. Its goal for 2000 is to add 331 units.
General Manager Bob Speckman announced Salem Electric’s
signing of a 10-year contract with Bonneville, which will provide a five-year
guaranteed fixed rate. He also announced that Sandy Flicker, newly appointed
Manager of the Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association (ORECA) will be
present at the board’s August meeting to report on the likely agenda for the
2001 legislative session.
The board meeting adjourned at 7:39 pm.
