News & Views from Your Elected Representatives

Minutes of the Meeting Held on:

December 19, 2000

The meeting was called to order by President Nancy Horn at 7 p.m. and all board members were present.
Oregon OSHA presented Salem Electric with its second SHARP Safety Award.
Engineering and Operations Manager Roger Kuhlman distributed copies of a completed Work Order and explained the procedure used by the Engineering Department when a customer requests a new service installation.
Member Services Manager Terry Kelly described the electrically-heated water saving programs offered by Salem Electric. The measures include application of water heater wraps, checking water heater temperature settings, and installing efficient shower heads and faucet aerators. He said all of these measures are installed at no cost to the customer.
General Manager Bob Speckman reminded the board of the special board meeting on December 21 to receive further information on NoaNet. Speckman stated that as of this date ten cooperatives have signed on to enter a study to determine NoaNet’s particular value to their co-op. (At the subsequent special meeting the Salem Electric board voted to participate in the study.)
In regard to approval of revisions to the Service Policies, there was some discussion about the new $10 "Field Service Connection Fee." The fee was set to hopefully discourage members from waiting until their service is disconnected to pay their bill. Some board members felt the fee should be raised to $20 to offer more incentive. The board eventually voted to approve the Service Policies and will review the Field Service Connection Fee after a year.

The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
