News & Information About Your Consumer-Owned Utility.

January 2001

Saving Energy at Home
We offer a variety of programs to help you reduce your electric bill in your home. If you have an electric heating system–call and we’ll check our files to see if we’ve done an energy audit on your home. If we have an audit, we can mail you a copy. If not, we will schedule a free detailed audit and tell you what can be done to save you energy and money. Through our WeatherWise Program you are eligible for a payment from Salem Electric for 50% of the cost of insulating your home and incentives to replace your windows. There is also a 5% interest loan to cover the balance. (NOTE: If you meet the income guidelines we will insulate your home at no cost to you.) If you have an electric water heater–call for a free water heater wrap, installed at no charge. We recommend wrapping your water heater whether it’s in a heated or unheated space. Plus, we’ll install a free water conservation package, including showerheads and faucet aerators. We also offer rebates for qualifying energy efficient appliances; heat pump loans and rebates; and high efficiency lighting products (available at our office). There are a number of brochures available at our office, on topics ranging from deregulation of the utility industry to home electrical safety. Contact our Member Services Department at 503.362.3601 and start saving right away.

Energy Youth Tour

Salem Electric is looking for an outstanding high school junior or senior to serve as Salem Electric’s delegate at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s 2001 Energy Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. The tour, held June 15-21, 2001, brings approximately 1,000 high school students together from throughout the United States to tour historic sites, meet with members of Congress, and learn about cooperatives and the role they’ve played in "electrifying" the United States. Salem Electric will pay the cost of travel, lodging, and meals during the event. To qualify, students must attend high school and live in Salem Electric’s service area. Completed applications must be submitted prior to Tuesday, March 13. For more information, or to obtain an application, contact Salem Electric at 503-362-3601 or by e-mail: se@salemelectric.com.
