By the Community, for the Community

October is National Co-op Month! This is the time of year when cooperatives across the country, including Salem Electric, celebrate who we are and more importantly, the members we serve. Electric co-ops are proud to provide power to an estimated 42 million people in 48 states. Across the country, local cooperatives work together to develop new technologies and infrastructure, learn from each other, and keep the grid secure.
Salem Electric was built by members like you who came together to create the electric cooperative we enjoy today. Because co-ops are locally governed and led by members who live and work in our community, they understand the needs of the community and provide affordable, reliable, and safe energy. Over time any excess revenue is shared back with the members.
One of the seven cooperative principles is cooperation among cooperatives. As a board member I can tell you that Oregon co-ops are constantly working together for the good of our members. Whether it be assisting with power restoration during major outages or working toward industry changes, Oregon’s electric co-ops are at work for the membership.
I hope you think of Salem Electric as more than your energy provider. We are a local business that powers economic development and supports the community because your electric co-op was built by the community, for the community.
