Board President Joe Van Meter

Do you want to be more involved in your cooperative? Consider running for a position on the Salem Electric Board of Directors. As an electric co-op, Salem Electric is governed by its seven-member board of directors who are elected from the membership, by the membership. The role of a director is important. Board decisions affect rates, reliability, and the co-op’s strategic objectives.

Director responsibilities include preparing for and attending monthly board meetings (typically the 4th Tuesday at 6 p.m.) and occasional committee meetings. Directors are also encouraged to attend industry-related educational conferences paid for by the co-op, and complete the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Credentialed Cooperative Director certification by the end of their first three-year term.

Directors are nominated for election by written petition. The petition must be signed by at least one percent of the membership, 191 signatures, to qualify for the ballot. Election packets are available for pick-up at Salem Electric during regular business hours.

This spring three positions are up for election. To learn more visit SalemElectric.com/board-directors, call our office at 503-362-3601, or email us at SE@SalemElectric.com.
