2021 Member Assistance
The board approved an update to the 2021 Salem Electric Member Assistance Program.
- The program end date will be extended from April 30 to November 30 or when funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
- A standard assistance credit of $175 per household will be implemented, which is the average assistance received since 2016.
- Heating type will be eliminated as a qualification to receive assistance.
Revolvement of Capital Credits
The board authorized revolvement of capital credits totaling $2,112,653 representing approximately $602,081 from 2004, $488,953 from 2005, and $1,021,619 from 2006. Salem Electric’s capital credit refund policy is to revolve 5% of all outstanding allocated margins to be paid on a “first-year in, first-year out” basis.
General Manager Tony Schacher reported that Salem Electric is continuing to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the Governor’s office. Employees are required to maintain a six-foot distance and wear masks in hallways and common areas.
In August, Salem Electric members received $52,716 of assistance to help pay their electric bills. Sources included Salem Electric’s COVID-19 Assistance Program, the Oregon Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, and other local agencies.
