Providing safe, reliable electricity to our members takes year-round planning and maintenance. Proactive tree trimming is one of the most important ways we help prevent outages before they happen. While we appreciate the beauty and environmental benefits of trees, limbs and trees growing too close to power lines can cause power interruptions, equipment damage, and safety hazards during storms and high winds.
To help keep the lights on and improve the reliability of our electric system, Salem Electric follows vegetation clearance requirements established by the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) and the National Electric Safety Code. These standards help reduce the risk of outages, protect critical electrical infrastructure, and ensure our system operates safely for members and the communities we serve.
This fall and winter, Salem Electric crews and hired contractors will trim or remove hazardous trees and limbs near overhead power lines. This proactive work helps strengthen system reliability, reduces the likelihood of weather-related outages, and allows us to better serve our members when challenging conditions arise.
You can help by reporting trees that are dead, hazardous, or growing into power lines. To submit a tree trimming request, visit SalemElectric.com/tree-trimming.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as this important work is completed. By working together to identify potential hazards before they become problems, we can help maintain a safer, more reliable electric system for everyone.
