Board Information
The Board reviewed the agenda for Salem Electric’s Annual Meeting to be held May 7 at 6:00 p.m. at the Roth’s Fresh Markets in West Salem. In addition to a report from the board president and general manager, Salem Electric engineer Jamie Buystedt will present on wildfire mitigation. The meeting also includes Austin Rohr from Northwest RiverPartners who will provide a review of the status of the Federal Columbia River Power System from a regional perspective.
Guest Speaker
Tucker Billman, Oregon Rural Electric Cooperative Association (ORECA) director of government relations, recapped the 2024 legislative short session and provided a summary of energy-related legislation. He noted that ORECA is meeting with legislators to provide information about issues affecting electric cooperatives.
General Manager’s Report
Tony Schacher and the Board had significant discussions about the Columbia Basin Restoration Initiative and the effort to remove an affordable, reliable, and dispatchable source of electricity with no viable alternative power supply in place to meet the region’s growing demand.
